Questions

Questions before you order

Is this a subscription?

No. This page sells a one-time purchase: no subscription, no auto-ship. When the box runs out, you decide if you want more. One sockeye buyer put it this way: "There is zero pressure to subscribe!" Interested in a subscription? Subscribe & save 8%

Why does it cost more?

Because of where it comes from and how it's handled. This is wild sockeye, caught by our own boats in Alaskan waters, never farmed and never imported. Every fillet is portioned right off the dock, vacuum-sealed, then flash-frozen to -40°F within hours of the catch, and it ships frozen with dry ice. Shipping is free on every order, so it isn't added at checkout.

What makes it high-quality protein?

Its amino acids. Wild sockeye protein has all nine essential amino acids, including tryptophan, and a raw 6oz fillet has about 38 g of protein (USDA FoodData Central). The ingredient list is one line: wild sockeye salmon.

How does it compare to collagen powder?

Both are protein, but not the same kind. Collagen peptides have no tryptophan, one of the nine essential amino acids, so they're an incomplete protein (Nutrients, 2019). Wild sockeye has all nine.

What if it's more fish than I can eat?

Fillets are vacuum-sealed in 6oz portions, so you thaw one at a time, even if it's just you. The rest keeps 1 year sealed in the freezer, so there is no rush to get through the box. One buyer wrote: "I like the individual packaging and the size is enough for one person." Our fillets are 6oz nominal. Hand-cut portions vary.

Will it arrive frozen?

Yes. Every fillet is portioned right off the dock, vacuum-sealed, then flash-frozen to -40°F within hours of the catch. It is never thawed and refrozen on its way to you, and it ships frozen with dry ice. Boxes ship every Tuesday: order before 6am Eastern on Tuesday and it ships that day. If the box turns up soft, warm or split, tell us and we replace the order. You do not send anything back.

Will it taste fishy?

We can't promise how it will land for you, so here is what our sockeye buyers wrote: "There is no 'fishy' smell or taste" and "no weird fishy smell". If it's not for you, email crew@outerseas.co within 30 days and we will make it right.
