Questions
Questions before you order
Is this a subscription?
No. This page sells a one-time purchase: no subscription, no auto-ship. When the box runs out, you decide if you want more. One sockeye buyer put it this way: "There is zero pressure to subscribe!"
What if it's more fish than I can eat?
Fillets are vacuum-sealed in 6oz portions, so you thaw one at a time, even if it's just you. The rest keeps 1 year sealed in the freezer, so there is no rush to get through the box. One buyer wrote: "I like the individual packaging and the size is enough for one person." Our fillets are 6oz nominal. Hand-cut portions vary.
Where do the omega-3s EPA and DHA come from?
Your body turns only a very limited share of ALA into EPA and DHA, so getting them directly from food, or a supplement if you take one, is the practical way to raise them (NIH fact sheet). On average, U.S. adults get about 90 mg a day from food (NIH, 2011–2012 survey data). USDA's figure for a raw 6oz wild sockeye fillet is about 900 mg (USDA FoodData Central). We make no health claims.
Will it taste fishy?
We can't promise how it will land for you, so here is what our sockeye buyers wrote: "There is no 'fishy' smell or taste" and "no weird fishy smell". If it's not for you, email crew@outerseas.co within 30 days and we will make it right.
Will it arrive frozen?
Yes. Every fillet is portioned right off the dock, vacuum-sealed, then flash-frozen to -40°F within hours of the catch. It is never thawed and refrozen on its way to you, and it ships frozen with dry ice. Boxes ship every Tuesday: order before 6am Eastern on Tuesday and it ships that day. If the box turns up soft, warm or split, tell us and we replace the order. You do not send anything back.
Is it really wild Alaskan salmon?
Yes. Kyle and his crew catch it in Alaskan waters on our own boats. It is never farmed and never imported, and it is 100% processed and packaged in the USA.
